1. The Toraja Tongkonan House, South Sulawesi Province

Toraja Tribe who live in South Sulawesi Province has the traditional house is called Tongkonan. The characteristic of a curved roof that resembles a boat is composed of bamboo. On the front of this house, there are rows of buffalo horns. The numbers of Buffalo horns shows the social status of the owner of this traditional house.
The stage structure is also a mainstay of this traditional house. Round pillars that support the floor of the wall and root are not planted in the ground, but immediately placed on a large stone carved into a square. Whereas the wall and floor board are glued without nails but are tied or stacked with a lock system. The house can last decades. Pretty cool right!
2. The Minangkabau Gadang House, West Sumatera Province

Gadang House is a traditional house of the Minangkabau tribe. The uniqueness of Gadang House is the shape of a curved and pointed roof that resembles a buffalo horn. Besides that, on the front wall of the Gadang House is made full of carvings. This house is using peg to connect the pieces of the wood.

3. The Sasak House, West Nusa Tenggara Province

Sasak House is a traditional house of residents who live in Lombok city, West Nusa Tenggara Province. Lombok city is nearby with Bali island, has a beautiful scenery and rich in cultures.
Sasak traditional house has unique shapes and material. The walls are made of woven, roofs are made from straw or roots of reed. While the floor uses a mixture of bricks, straw ash and tree sap.
The residents believe that the house has an important position in human life, because it is a place of family privacy and fulfill its spiritual needs. So that, they made every room is categorized by the function of its room.
4. The Lamin House, East Kalimantan Province

The traditional house was built by indigenous people of Kalimantan, namely the East Dayak Tribe. The hallmark of this one building is a variety of ornaments that are visible on each side of the house.
Lamin House is the largest traditional Indonesia with 300m X 15m X 3m. The inhabitants of this house can reach 12 to 30 family heads.
There are two types of pillars in this house, floor support and roof support. On the front of this house is equipped with Totem Statue that is believed to be a god by the residents. The color which was applied to this house has its own meaning. The yellow color symbolizes authority, red for courage, blue for loyalty, and white for pure soul.
5. The Raft House, Bangka Belitung Province

The uniqueness of this house lies in its position and shape. As the name suggests, this house is similar to a raft and built on a river. The construction of this house is on the river because the river is considered as a source of livelihood and food source for the community. The material used is in the form of mayan bamboo (local bamboo) which can float in water and be used for the walls. Then, for the wooden blocks, the board as a wall. While the roof uses woven ulits. One of the main ingredients is rattan as a binder of bamboo and the top of the raft house. Wow, that's really cool ! Even you can swim here.
6. The Mbaru Niang House, East Nusa Tenggara Province

This rare traditional house is only found in one of the remote villages of the Mountains on East Nusa Tenggara Province (Wae Rebo Village). With the unique shape of cone has a height of 15 meters and inside its consist of 5 level of floors. Conservation of The Mbaru Niang House has received the highest award with cultural heritage category from UNESCO Asia Pacific in 2012.
In its construction, poles are planted into the ground at 1.5 meters to 2 meters. With a ground floor on a stage, 1.2 from the ground. The pillars of each floor are not continuous but are installed disconnected and fastened. Rattan is used as a binder between the beams. The five floors in the house have their respective functions. Ground floor as a place to live and gather, second to store food and goods. Then on the third floor where the seeds of food crops such as corn rice are stored. The fourth floor is for food stock in case of drought and the top floor is used for offering offerings to ancestors.
7. The Omo Sebua House, North Sumatera Province
The Omo Sebua House is belong to Nias Tribe in North Sumatera Province. It is a traditional house specifically built for village chiefs with large columns of iron wood and high roofs. Omo Sebua is specifically designed to protect its inhabitants from attacks during ancient tribal wars.
Access to it is just a small staircase with a trapdoor. The shape of the roof of this traditional house is very steep which can reach 16 meters high. Besides being used to protect against enemy attacks, Omo is also known to be resistant to earthquake shocks.
