7 Best Spot in Hidden Paradise of Nias Island


Nias (in local language means Tanö Niha) is an island which located in west of North Sumatra Province, Indonesia. This place is the biggest and modern island than other islands in west of North Sumatra. Meanwhile, they still have a lot of traditional heritage to be seen.

For your information, when you decided to travel to Nias Island, you have to go through Gunungsitoli City to enjoy the tourist attraction. This island can be reached by air and land transportation. If you take airlines, you should arrived in Kuala Namu International Airport in Medan, Capital city of North Sumatra then take local airlines (Lion Air or Wings Air) to reach Gunungsitoli. It takes one hour trip.

Otherwise if you take a boat or ship, you have to come in Sibolga Harbour which located at Sibolga City in North Sumatra. To reach Gunungsitoli City, you must arrived in Binaka Harbour from Sibolga Harbour. It takes 10 hours trip. Another option, you can take Ferry Jet Jumbo which is only need 3 hours trip to reach Gunungsitoli.

1. Pink Beach Gawu Soyo Nias


    The main reason why this beach is called Pink beach is because the color of sand is pink. In fact, a normal beach has white sand not pink sand. That is the uniqueness of this beach. There's a local legend about pink sand, that once upon a time there's bloodshed in this beach what makes the sand just have pink color. By the way, this is only pink sand beach in Sumatra Province. Don't miss it !

Another thing, this beach has rare turtle may you won't miss it !


2. Sorake Beach
  

  If you love do surfing, here's the place. The high and beautiful waves makes people keep coming. The height approx. 30 meter above. Wow ! The rocks spread on the shoreline. Sorake beach always open the international surfing competition annually. This beach is best top ten for surfing in the world list. Just come if you loves challenges.


3. Lagundri Beach


    It is nearby Sorake Beach. This beach is a paradise too for surfers. The height of waves here max only 10 meters in 5 levels and length approx a few kilometers. If you do not want to get too high waves, this beach could be your choice. Same as Sorake Beach, this beach is best top ten for surfing in the world list. 

Besides the beautiful waves, Lagundri beach is famous with clear white sand beach and best sunset view. To see the best of the best, I recommend you to come at June and July in a year.

4. Tureloto Beach


    Another unusual beach in Nias Island is Tureloto Beach. May you see the view of white sand like the most beaches on the earth, but the rocks in Tureloto beach has formed naturally like brains. You can swim here, but cannot dive that's because the waves are calm and has exotic coral reef with a lot of marine creatures. 

Here is the good news for you who cannot swim inside the sea, because it contains high amount of sea salt similar with dead sea in Jordan Riff Valley so that your body will be floated on the sea and did not sink. To reach this beach, you need takes 2 hours trip form Gunungsitoli City.

5. Stone Jump in Bawomatalou Village



    Stone jump is one of most authentic local culture in Nias Island. It has been carrying out from past generations to next generations by centuries. The unique thing from it, that should be done by a boy who has considered that he is old enough to become adult by local people. So, you must be curious how to get know that they are old enough to be an adult ?

Here's the measure by traditionally. A boy who cannot jump the stone above 2 meters, he will not be categorized in adult group, but once they can jump the stone above 2 meters, it will be categorized in adult group and become a man by local people. So when the result is positive, they will celebrate it by slaughtering the buffalo.

Do you really want to see this attraction ? Just come to Bawomatulou Village. Besides, have the local attractions such as jump stone and war dance (tari perang). This place has a lot of heritage of megalithic and local ornament in the past. Then, this village keeps the traditional houses of local kings which had built from centuries ago. Today, Bawomatalou Village is a tentative list in UNESCO as a world heritage.

For your information, to reach thisvillage you should pass 88 stairs from Teluk Dalam City which the distance approx 15 kilometers. Wow it must be challenging ! Are you brave enough ?

6. Heritage Museum of Nias



     Well maybe most of you think that the design of museums is very ancient and boring. But this museum is very unique because it is located on seafront, so that the scenery around museum looks beautiful perfectly.

        This museum was built with traditional local style, but also inside it had mini zoo which keeps the collections of rare local flora and fauna. In this museum, you can see 6.500 historical bjects or artifacts of local people. Of course, there were the displays give the information about each artifacts in English and Indonesia Language.

7. Archipelago of Hinako



    Last but not the least that place you must visit when travelling to Nias Island. Archipelago of Hinako consists of 8 islands that very close and has different uniqueness each of them. In this archipelago, you can do a lot of things and enjoy many attractions such as snorkling, diving, and fishing. If you just want to see the view and enjoy the sea, this archipelago offers a lot of coral reefs, colorful ornamental fish, and clear water then you can see what's inside of the sea from above the surface. If you looking for the challenge in this area, lets do fishing because the size of fishes are very big so that you need extra energy to pull it out.
